Fusion Lacrosse is extremely pleased to announce the hiring of Todd Faiella as the West Coast Director for Fusion Lacrosse. Todd will start by running Fusion programs and curriculum in Utah, the state where Todd resides, and look for opportunities to strengthen the program from there. Says Fusion founder Steven Holmes “It is extremely important for us to build the foundation of our company with great people, and Todd certainly fits that bill. Todd is passionate and uncompromising in doing things the right way, which is why we are so excited to have him represent and grow Fusion.”
Todd got his BA at Brown and his masters in education at Virginia, and now runs NRG lacrosse in Utah. Todd will be adopting the Fusion curriculum for any indoor lacrosse programs so he can also expose young lacrosse players to the unique benefits and skills that the Fusion Box platform produces. According to Faiella, “Although the field game has exploded in Utah, the indoor game has not made the same strides. There is a huge opportunity to fill that void with our partnership with Fusion. We will use their techniques, methods, and platform to ensure we are coaching kids the right ways. They (Fusion) have amazing players and coaches and we want to bring their lessons to the West.”
Faiella and Holmes have a unique relationship that started when they met at Virginia, after Todd had transferred from Brown in order to receive another year of eligibility and Holmes had just started working as an assistant defensive coach at UVA. “Todd arrived in Charlottesville about a week after I did and we became roommates and fast friends,” Holmes said. Todd was aiming to work his way back from a devastating torn Achilles injury that he suffered at Brown. While many told Todd he may never play again, Coach Starsia gave him a chance at Virginia. “Todd’s injury was such that it severely impacted his speed and strength in his right leg. The only way Todd would have a chance of playing again was extreme hard work and dedication, and that is exactly what he did,” Described Holmes, who witnessed so much of Todd’s battle firsthand.
On top of rigorous rehab and extra training, Todd and Holmes would regularly compete in countless 1v1’s before practice. “Essentially two defenseman doing 1v1’s against each other meant that we would just annihilate one another for about half an hour, and then Todd would wander over and start stretching with the team,” Holmes said. That year was extremely special to both as UVA won the national championship in 2011 with Todd logging crucial minutes in the Final Four.
There is a mutual respect between the two and both are extremely excited to be building the great game of lacrosse together with Fusion. “More than anything, I love the person behind the Fusion platform. I had the opportunity to work closely with Steve during my time at UVA. I have been around the game a long time, and not many have the incredible talent and correct approach Steve possesses when it comes to coaching. Some of the most important aspects of the game I have learned are a direct result of him. Working with him to help develop players is something that causes me a great deal of excitement.”
Look for more news coming soon on both NRG and Fusion programs and opportunities to work with both Todd and Steve.
